Boracay, Philippines

Getting to/from Boracay

Entering Boracay Island commercially is possible only by 20-minute boat ride from one place: Aklan’s Caticlan town. Asian Spirit Airlines and South East Asian (SEA) Airlines all offer direct one-hour flights from Manila to Caticlan. Kalibo welcomes flights from Manila aboard Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Airlines, and flights from Cebu City aboard Mindanao Express Airlines and Cebu Pacific Airlines. From Kalibo, the capital of Aklan, buses then ferry tourists to Caticlan town.

Take note!

  • Most local airlines charge anywhere from USD50 to USD100; off-peak season rates are usually lower.
  • The Manila Domestic Airport also charges approximately USD3 in airport taxes.
  • Most flights to Boracay depart in the afternoon, so if you’re scheduling a flight from overseas into Manila, try to ride on a plane that lands at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 1PM, so you can catch a flight at around 330PM.

Health Concerns
The Boracay Medical Clinic, managed by Dr. Rafael Lumio and Dr. Jose Gil Causing, is a 24-hour operation that can handle basic medical requirements. They may be reached at (036) 31-47 or 22-42.

Moving Around
The best way to travel in the Island is on foot, especially while exploring the white beach. If you need to go inland and/or travel some distance, tricycle rides are available at around US$ 0.50 per head.

Credit Cards
Most of Boracay’s hotels, resorts, restaurants, and shopping centers at D’Mall accept major international credit cards, including Mastercard and VISA. These merchandisers are also willing to convert your foreign currencies into local pesos, although currencies usually accepted are dollars, euros, and yen.

Weather and Climate
As in the rest of the Philippines, weather on Boracay is characterized by moderate temperatures, little to no rainfall, and generally sunny, breezy weather, known on the island as the Amihan season, and humid, generally rainy weather, known as Habagat. The local vernacular translates Amihan as ‘cool northeast wind’, owing to the prevailing east wind; Habagat, meanwhile, translates into ‘southwest monsoon,’ owing, in turn, to the prevailing west wind. On Boracay, Habagat and Amihan switches are generally observed by wind direction.

Tourists generally visit Boracay during the Amihan season; rates in Boracay hotels and resorts are often higher during this season. Boracay hotels on the western White Beach generally experience water quality perfect for snorkeling, while hotels on the eastern side of the island receive winds coming in from the northern and southern hills of Boracay, resulting in conditions perfect for watersports.

Experience the island lifestyle of this world-renowned tropical paradise from one of the most acclaimed resorts on the island: the Paradise Garden Resort in Boracay. Enjoy its lush surroundings, superior Boracay accommodations and personal service.
